A set of figures and artillery equipment in 1:72 scale from HäT, focused on American artillery of the First World War period. The package holds figures of a gun crew in period uniforms and 75 mm field guns, with which the American units in France were armed. The castings are of the soft plastic typical of this maker's figure sets, and the set is supplied unpainted.
The American Expeditionary Forces arrived in Europe without enough modern artillery of their own, and so they took over the French 75 mm quick-firing gun on a large scale. This light field gun was set apart by its hydro-pneumatic recoil and recuperator mechanism, thanks to which the barrel absorbed the recoil after firing and the carriage stayed in place. That allowed a high rate of fire without the need to re-aim. The crew worked as a drilled team in which every man had a firmly set role: passing the rounds, working the breech, aiming and firing. It is precisely these scenes that the set captures in the form of figures in characteristic working poses.
The soft plastic of the figures holds ordinary cement for polystyrene badly, so cyanoacrylate glue proves itself here. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent to remove mold release residue, and apply a thin coat of flexible primer. Bring out the uniforms with a dry brush and finish the faces and the webbing with a fine-tipped brush. The guns look their best after a dark highlighting wash in the recesses and a fine dust pigment on the wheels and the carriage. The figures work well on a small diorama with a defensive position, ammunition boxes and churned-up ground.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
