Walls and Floors - Wooden Planks A is a diorama accessory in 1:35 scale with a printed pattern of a plank floor and wall. It is not a kit but material for building an environment: it replaces the laborious assembling of planks from individual strips and gives the wood its grain and the differing shade of neighboring planks straight away.
A wooden surface is one of the most universal elements of a diorama. You will use it as the floor of a barn, a workshop or an attic, as the covering of a plank wall and of doors, as the surface of a ramp or a jetty, but also as the floor of a truck cargo bed and the sides of crates. The texture of the wood also carries light, so the scene does not look flat, and in combination with brickwork or tiling it helps to break the space up. The artwork is designed for 1:35 scale, so the width of the planks matches figures and vehicles.
Lay out the direction of the planks first, because that direction decides which way the scene stretches optically and it should follow the construction of the surrounding parts. The base has to be flat and matte. Depending on the format, the sheet is glued down flat with PVA glue and weighted until dry, or applied as a decal onto a smooth base. Darken the cut edges with a dark pigment or a pencil, otherwise they shine white. The effect is lifted markedly by a thin wash into the seams between planks, by drybrushing a lighter shade onto the edges and by a few warped or missing pieces. Even the whole surface out with a matte coat at the end.
This is a diorama accessory, not a kit. The base, glue, paints and figures are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
