What the set offers

An accessory for a diorama in 1:35 scale: a set of lettering and hanging signs for shop fronts. It is exactly such small things that turn a backdrop into a believable place. An empty facade looks like a model, whereas a facade with lettering above the window already tells you what the house traded in and in what period the scene takes place.

Where it fits

Into urban and village scenes with infantry and vehicles alike, onto commercial ground floors, onto corner houses and into passageways. The lettering also works as an aid to composition: it draws the viewer's eye where you want it and helps fill an area of wall that would otherwise look empty. The letter C in the name tells this set apart from sets A and B of the same line, so the motifs can be combined and one street can be fitted out several times over without repeating the same sign.

How to work with them

Place the lettering only on a finished and degreased facade, that is once the color of the brickwork has dried and any emphasis of the joints is done. The fixing procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions; before you possibly soak the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is not a self-adhesive version, because a soaked self-adhesive film is irreversibly ruined. A unifying matte or semi-gloss coat at the end ties the lettering into the surface of the wall and rids it of the impression of stuck-on paper.

A closing tip

Lettering looks best when it does not look new. Lightly darkening the bottom edge, a hint of dust in the corners and restrained traces of running water will settle it into its setting just like the rest of the facade. It also pays to keep the signs at a uniform height above the sidewalk, because the eye notices such a discrepancy sooner than the motif itself.
