An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Aoshima. The subject is the Honda Beat with the factory code PP1, a two-seat open car of the Japanese kei class, as it was in 1991.
The Beat was introduced at the start of the 1990s as a small roadster meeting the Japanese regulations for the smallest class of cars. Its engine of up to 660 cubic centimeters was mounted ahead of the rear axle and drove the rear wheels, a layout that remains exceptional in a production car of this size even today. The car was offered exclusively with a manual gearbox, had a fabric roof and won itself the standing of a cult small sports car in Japanese culture.
A small car means small parts and with them different work from a large sedan. Cut the parts off with good nippers a little away from the part and clean the remaining sprue nub up with a scalpel or a file so that the thin plastic does not crack. Use as little glue as possible, ideally liquid cement applied with a brush into the seam so that it is drawn in by capillary action; a thick drop would run out on a small part and damage the surface. On an open car, moreover, the whole interior and the upper edge of the door are permanently visible, so it pays to devote time to the edges of the dashboard and to a clean seam in the cockpit area.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
