The subject is the Toyota Crown Athlete of the AWS210 series in the guise of a Tokyo individual taxi, that is a vehicle operated by an independent licensed driver. The model is supplied as a set of parts to be assembled and painted; the contents of the package and the number of parts are given in the instructions in the box.
The Crown is among the longest-running model lines of Toyota and in Japan it has long served as an executive upper-middle-class sedan. The generation with the AWS210 code appeared in 2013 and within it the Athlete line was the sportily tuned variant with its own grille and suspension setup. Tokyo individual taxis are a category of transport in their own right: the vehicles belong directly to their drivers, who keep them in better than standard condition, so they tend to be markedly better maintained and polished than the vehicles of large taxi companies.
The body of a sedan has large flat areas on which every unevenness shows. It pays to remove the parting seams and the ejector pin marks first, spray the part with filler primer and sand that wet with very fine paper. Apply the paint in several thin coats with sufficient time between them rather than in one heavy one. Orange peel appears when the spraying distance is too great or the paint is already drying in flight, which you should watch out for especially with dark shades. Apply the clear coat only once the decals have dried and fine-tune the gloss by polishing with fine pastes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
