Moscow infantry (pishalniki), 16th century, 1:72 is a set of Red Box figures focused on foot shooters with an early firearm.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of figures in 1:72 scale from the maker Red Box. The designation in parentheses defines foot shooters armed with an early firearm, so the set fills a different task in a scene from the general infantry of the same line: it does not make up a mass but a line. A shooting set is set out loosely, into one or two ranks, and in a diorama it works as a readable boundary between the terrain and the rest of the formation.
The foot shooters of the Muscovite state of the 16th century. An early firearm had to be rested or held in both hands, which determined the stance as well as the spacing between the men; a close array makes no sense with shooters. The dress corresponded to the ordinary period clothing of Eastern Europe, complemented by carried equipment for shot and powder.
A shooting set is one of the few where it pays off in 1:72 to set the figures out sparsely. The spacing is in fact part of the message: figures crowded together read as a crowd, not as a firing line. The set complements artillery of the same scale well; the combination of foot shooters and a gun crew gives a scene two different tempos and prevents the whole tableau from consisting only of similar silhouettes. When painting, count on the fact that the carried equipment and the straps are the main distinguishing mark of a shooter at this scale; it is enough to keep them a step lighter or darker than the coat and the figure reads even from a distance. Choose smoke effects on a diorama sparingly; at a small scale they easily cover precisely the silhouettes the set is bought for.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
