A plastic kit of a figure from the animated series Dragon Ball, from the Japanese maker Bandai. This is the character Son Goku in the form designated as Super Saiyan 3, that is with the characteristic long hair reaching to the waist. Models of this line are built by snapping the parts together, what is called snap-fit, and the parts are molded in colored plastic, so the finished model looks good even without paint. The extent of the color separation, the number of parts, the presence of interchangeable hands or faces and the particular contents of the package are stated by the maker of the kit. The scale is not stated in the name.
Figure kits of this type have an articulated skeleton, so the finished model can be set into a chosen pose. That is the main difference from a fixed collector's figurine. The long hair is the most pronounced feature of this form of the character and at the same time the largest part of the model; count on that when balancing the stance and when looking for a place in a display case. The assembly is quick, but room for advanced work remains, as the parts can be sprayed while disassembled and the surface finished.
Nip the parts off a little away from the part and clean the sprue nub up with a knife, as a whitened spot is clearly seen on colored plastic. Do not press the joints home forcibly. If you want to spray the model, assemble it dry first, check the shape and take it apart again, as you will not reach some of the areas once it is assembled. Use a primer under the paint. With figures a dark wash into the recesses of the folds of the clothing and a light accenting of the edges with a dry brush will help, and the result is immediately more three-dimensional. For the hair a transition from a darker shade at the roots to a lighter one at the ends proves itself. Unify the surface with a matte varnish, which comes across more naturally on clothing than a sheen.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints, varnishes and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
