About product

Lion Ruins, scenic ruins with a lion motif

A scenic accessory from the maker Green Stuff World: remains of masonry and architecture with a lion motif, which are fitted into a scene and painted. It is neither a kit of a model nor a figure but a feature of the setting. A ruin has a different task in a scene from vegetation: it carries a story and sets where the scene takes place. The lion motif moreover gives the whole a clear dominant feature, which the eye looks at first, so it pays off to work with it deliberately.

Use

  • The dominant feature of a diorama, around which a composition can be built
  • A terrain and cover feature on a game table
  • Accentuating the base of a larger figure or a bust
  • A suggestion of a vanished building in fantasy, historical and city scenery

Installation and painting tips

Never place ruins in the middle and facing front, as the scene then comes across as static. Turn the feature slightly to the side and let part of the masonry sink into the terrain, as if the ground were already swallowing it. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and spray a primer. Stone is most easily built up from a mid gray base: a dark glaze will run into the joints and draw the structure out, and a light dry brush will pull out the edges and the chipped places. Leave the relief lion motif more pronounced than the masonry around it, otherwise it will be lost in the overall gray. Convincingness is helped by a lack of color uniformity, that is a few blocks of stone shifted toward a warmer or a cooler shade. At the end add moss in the joints, climbing vegetation and a little rubble and grit at the foot, so that the ruin does not stand on a clean surface.

Who the feature is for

For builders of dioramas who are looking for a pronounced architectural accessory, and for wargaming players building terrain. The dimensions of the ruin are stated by the maker; if you are building in a particular scale, compare them with the figures in the scene.

The feature is supplied unpainted, and paints, glue and a base board are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is a scenic feature, that is a ruin to be fitted into a scene and painted, not a model of a building to be built.

A mid gray base, a dark glaze into the joints, a light dry brush along the edges and a few blocks shifted toward a warmer or a cooler tone. Leave the relief of the lion more pronounced than the masonry around it.

An architectural feature of this type will bear a wider range of scales than equipment. The dimensions of the ruin are stated by the maker; compare them with the figures in the scene.

The material is stated by the maker for the particular feature. The ruin is supplied unpainted and is painted by the usual procedure for stone.
