The set belongs among the accessories for modelers who build a cockpit in 1:32 scale. It is neither a model of an aircraft nor a replacement seat in resin: you get a printed sheet from which the individual elements are transferred with water onto a part that is already built and painted. Compared with an ordinary flat decal this line has a layered structure, so once dry the straps and the fittings stand out above the surface and cast a shadow of their own when seen in the cockpit.
ACES II is an American ejection seat of the postwar generation that appears with combat aircraft over decades. A plastic seat in kits tends to be cast as a bare shell without a restraint system, or with the belts suggested only by shallow engraving. It is precisely this gap that the set fills, as in an open cockpit in a large scale a seat without straps is the most conspicuous missing detail. The contents of the package and the particular kits the sheet is cut for are stated by the maker.
What decides is the preparation of the surface. First paint the seat, let the paint really dry through and go over the places where the belts will come with a clear gloss varnish. On a matte and porous surface microscopic air stays under the carrier film and the decal turns gray through what is called silvering. Then cut the element out close to the edge of the printing, immerse it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest until the backing releases by itself. Lay the decal in place, slide it off the paper, position it with a soft brush and draw the excess water off. Once it has started to set, apply a thin layer of softener, push the air out with a cotton swab from the center toward the edges and let the area dry without touching it. At the end unify the whole cockpit with a matte varnish, which will hide the glossy intermediate layer as well as the edges of the film.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit on its own. Paints, varnishes and a softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
