The set complements the cockpit of a model in the large scale with the restraint system of the seat. The elements are printed in full color on decal paper and are applied with water; the layered printing gives them a relief, so once dry a strap stands out above the surface and does not come across as a drawing. The seat itself is not in the package, as the set counts on the part from a kit.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is a single-engine supersonic aircraft with a very thin wing of small span and a slender fuselage. The cockpit is narrow and in 1:32 scale it is clearly visible, so the seat makes up a substantial part of the overall impression. The designation C1 in the name refers to a particular guise of the seat; the details of it are stated by the maker of the set.
Varnish the painted seat with a clear gloss varnish, cut the element off and soak it for a moment in lukewarm water. Once the backing releases, slide it into place and straighten it. Then comes the step that decides the result: the air under the carrier film. Even on a smooth varnish small bubbles are left after the transfer, and it is precisely these that cause silvering, that is a gray veil that looks like a dusty surface. Draw the excess water off, then, with the corner of a paper towel, apply a thin layer of softener and push the air out from the center toward the edges with a cotton swab or the tip of a soft brush. Do not press, just draw. With larger areas it pays off to pierce a microscopic hole in the film with the tip of a scalpel under a magnifier and push the bubble out through it. Once it is completely dry, apply a matte varnish.
