1:144 Convair CV 580 - Allison 501 conversion set with landing flaps is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model. It lets you rebuild the piston-engine Convair into the turboprop version.

This is a conversion set meant for the Roden kit, not a stand-alone model. The set contains parts for the rebuild to the turboprop version with Allison 501 engines, and landing flaps along with them. Without the base kit you cannot use the set, and the build expects the original engine nacelles to be cut off.
The Convair CV 580 was not an original type but a rebuild of the older twin-engine Convair airliner with piston radial engines. Those were replaced with Allison 501 turboprops, which raised the performance, the climb rate and the cruising speed fundamentally and extended the life of the aircraft by decades. The converted Convairs then flew on regional routes and later mainly as freighters and special-purpose aircraft. Visually they are told apart from the piston version at first glance by exactly those slim engine nacelles with the wide spacing of the propeller blades and by the revised tailplane, which is precisely what the conversion set deals with.
A conversion in 1:144 scale is work for a patient modeler: the parts are small, and the smaller the scale, the more any departure from symmetry shows. Cut the original nacelles off with a fine-toothed saw, not a knife, and run the cut along a line drawn in advance, the same on both sides. Dry-fit the new parts first and set them against each other from a front view, not by how they feel from the side. If the castings are resin, wash them free of mold release agent before painting and glue with super glue; fill the gaps and sand them wet. Landing flaps in the extended position help a model a great deal, but they mean that the underside of the wing has to be cleanly worked. Do not forget the primer before spraying, because otherwise the transitions between plastic, filler and resin show through the glossy finishes of airliners.
The set is an accessory to a plastic kit, which it does not contain. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
