A set of decals on a waterslide backing intended for finishing a model of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter in the C and D versions in 1:48 scale. It is neither a model nor a kit but markings applied to a model that is already built and varnished. The exact contents of the sheet, that is the number of schemes and the individual machines, are given by the manufacturer. Kits-World makes several different sheets for this same type, so before ordering it is worth comparing the illustration on the packaging with the way you want your model to look, and going by the exact designation and number of the set.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was a single-seat fighter with a radial engine and a turbocharger housed in the rear fuselage. The C version and the early production D series differ from the later machines in the shape of the rear fuselage: the spine runs smoothly into the cockpit canopy, which is where the established term razorback comes from. Only the later series received a bubble canopy and a cut-down spine. The difference matters for choosing decals, because markings tend to be tied to the particular shape of the fuselage and its surfaces.
The foundation is a smooth gloss base. On matte paint, air stays under the decal film and the edges show as a silvery rim. Cut the decal out as close to the printing as you can, put it in warm water for a few tens of seconds and let it rest on a paper towel until it begins to slide freely. Slide it onto its place off the backing paper, fine-tune the position with a damp brush and blot the surplus water away. In 1:48 scale the decals are larger and easier to handle, but on a large area every air bubble shows more readily. Where the decal passes over engraved lines or riveting, a softener will help; apply it drop by drop and do not touch the decal until it has dried. Finally seal the finished markings with varnish in whatever degree of gloss the whole model is to have.
