A large-format printed sheet 225 x 225 mm, intended as a base under models in 1:144 scale. The motif is a grass surface in a worn state, that is with trodden and rutted patches and uneven coloring. It is neither a decal nor a kit.
A grass airfield is a dating aid in itself. Paved runways became normal only as the weight of machines grew, so a grass surface steers a scene toward lighter aircraft, toward field and reserve airfields or toward sporting operations. The wear gives away something more: that the area was not ornamental but in use. Wheel tracks and trodden patches appear where machines taxi and where they are parked. It is exactly this detail that sets a believable scene apart from a plain green square.
The grass motif is the most versatile of all the bases, because it carries no markings, numbers or guide lines, and so it can be matched to a machine of any country and any period. It also works well as the edge of a larger scene if you join it to a hardstanding from another sheet in the same scale: the transition between grass and concrete is one of the most rewarding elements of an airfield scene. The manufacturer also makes a continuous variant of the same grass without the signs of use, as the Worn qualifier in the name indicates, so pick the right one for the scene you have in mind; the two differ precisely in the state of the surface.
This is a printed base for a model. The model itself, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
