A printed sheet 225 x 225 mm showing the surface of Aalborg air base, known in Danish as Flyvestation Aalborg, as it was in the period 1983 to 2001. It serves as a base under models in 1:144 scale. It is neither a kit nor a decal.
A span of eighteen years is no accident on an airfield base. It means that in the period named the look of the area, that is its paving, its division and its markings, did not change markedly, and the motif is therefore usable for the whole of that stretch of service. For a modeler that has a practical consequence: one base can be used under several different machines and markings from the 1980s and the 1990s without the scene becoming inconsistent in period.
An airfield surface in northern Europe wears differently from one in warm regions. What counts are the cycles of frost and thaw, which work on the joints, and the winter maintenance, which marks the surface over the long term. The result tends to be an area with distinct divisions and with markings unevenly worn away toward the edges. That is at the same time a guide for your own work: a model stood on such a surface will carry slightly stronger dirt on the landing gear and the underside of the fuselage than would look believable on a freshly repaired airfield.
This is a printed base for a model. The model itself, glue and paints are not part of the delivery.
