Responsibility details are not available.
A large-format printed sheet 450 x 450 mm depicting the surface of the British Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, carried under the name HMS Heron. It is neither a kit nor a decal. A finished model is stood on the base and gains a setting matching its allegiance to naval aviation. The motif is tied to the 1990s and the period following.
Yeovilton is a shore station of naval aviation, not the deck of a ship. That matters when choosing: the base suits machines at the moment when they stand on land, that is during training, maintenance or between deployments. For a modeler it is a more practical option than a deck scene, because a shore surface will take a wider range of types, including the helicopters that make up a large part of naval aviation's equipment.
Helicopters leave different traces on a stand than aircraft do. Typical are dark patches of operating fluids under the gearbox and blurred circular outlines where a machine stands for long periods. When choosing a base under a model of this kind, it makes sense to place the machine where the surface already bears signs of use rather than in the middle of the cleanest spot. The second detail is shadow. The printed surface has its own lighting and the model has its own, so the scene looks best when you photograph it with soft diffused light from a direction similar to the one the print itself suggests. Hard point light, by contrast, creates a shadow that clashes with the printed lighting.
This is a printed scenic base, not a kit. The model and the accessories are not part of the delivery.
