A printed scenic base 450 x 450 mm for models in 1:72 scale. Unlike bases tied to a particular station and year, this is a universal motif: a continuous grass surface with no rutted patches and no markings. It is neither a kit nor a decal. A finished model is stood on the sheet and gains a green setting that does not bind the scene to a particular place or unit.
The motif is deliberately neutral and therefore the most usable of the whole range. A grass airfield is the natural setting for hardware from the period when paved surfaces were only becoming the standard, but it can also serve models of gliders and sporting machines or as the area beside a runway. Besides this continuous variant, the manufacturer also makes a version with trodden, worn grass. If you want a scene with visible signs of use, reach for that one; this base is the even one.
With grass in particular it holds that a model should not merely sit on it but settle into it. A wheel standing on a carefully drawn grass surface as though on glass gives the whole scene away. A small thing helps: a slightly darker ground immediately around the tires and dusty, greenish-tinted lower parts of the landing gear. Grass leaves different dirt on a model than concrete, so instead of gray dust choose warmer earthy and greenish tones on the wheels and the underside of the fuselage. A continuous sward will also take a richer color on the model, because a green background dampens the contrast.
