A set of diorama accessories from Doozy: laser-cut wooden parts from which transport crates on a car-parts theme are assembled, in 1:24 scale. It is not a model of an automobile, nor a detail set for one particular kit, it is a free-standing scenic element.
1:24 is the home scale of automobile kits, so the crates fit garage and service scenes exactly. They come into their own in a vignette with a car on a lift, beside a workshop bench, on the bed of a pickup, in a racing team's pit and in an abandoned garage. Because they are made of a wooden material, a convincing grain can be built up on them, along with the dirty, well-handled surface that carries so much of the atmosphere in a workshop scene.
The parts are broken out of the sheet and the tab remnants sanded down with fine sandpaper. They are glued with dispersion wood glue or with a small drop of cyanoacrylate. Wood draws paint in, so seal the surface first and only then build the shade up with a stain or with a heavily thinned oil paint. A dark wash and a dry brush will bring out the grain, and oil stains and rub marks are finished off with pigments and oil paint. Too much water will warp the thin parts, which is why the work is done in thin coats.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue and paints are not included in the package.
