A kit of the Douglas DC-9-30 airliner in 1:144 scale, issued in the colors of the Venezuelan airline Aserca Airlines. For airliners 1:144 is the home scale: the finished model is a sensible size for a display case and can be collected in series. What is stated on the box is what decides.
The DC-9 was a short-haul airliner with a pair of jet engines mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage and with the horizontal tail carried at the top of the fin. The layout with a clean wing free of engine nacelles made it possible to use powerful high-lift devices, and with them the aircraft reached even short and poorly equipped runways where older types fell short. The Series 30 was the stretched version of the basic type and became the most widespread of the whole family. Latin American airlines operated the DC-9 long after the large carriers had retired theirs, precisely because of how little infrastructure it demanded.
On a model of an airliner the surface is what decides: most schemes have large glossy areas on which every imperfect seam shows. So fill and sand the parting lines of the fuselage down in several stages, check it against the light over a filler primer and only then spray. Mask the cockpit and window glazing before you start on the paint. Spray the white upper fuselage over a light base in thin coats, otherwise it will fill the engraved lines. Decals on airliners tend to be large and long, so apply them on a perfectly glossy varnish, use a softener and press the surplus water out from the center toward the edges. Leave the landing gear and its bays until the end.
