F-117A BASIC level kabuki masks, 1:48 are pre-cut New Ware masking parts for the Academy kit. This is an accessory to a model, not the kit itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of pre-cut kabuki masks for a 1:48 model of the Lockheed F-117A from the manufacturer Academy. BASIC is the basic variant of the range, because New Ware offers the same set in ADVANCED and EXPERT levels as well, and those reach further. If clean framing of the glazing is what you are after, BASIC is the usual choice. The manufacturer also makes further masking sets for the F-117A, and this one is cut specifically for the Academy kit. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory to one.
The Lockheed F-117A Nighthawk was an American attack aircraft with reduced radar signature. Its airframe was made up of flat panels, so-called facets, which deflected the radar signal away from the source. It was powered by two turbojets without afterburners and carried its weapons in an internal bomb bay so as not to disturb the shape of the airframe. The aircraft had no armament for air combat and operated mostly at night. It stayed in US Air Force service from the 1980s until 2008.
The parts are die-cut on a carrier film. Lift them with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers, transfer them to a clean, degreased surface and press the edges down with a toothpick. Spray the paint in thin coats and at lower pressure, because a heavy coat likes to run under the edge. On glazing it is worth laying the interior color first and only then the outer shade. Lift the mask off while the paint is still slightly flexible. The faceted airframe of the F-117A forgives little: a matte finish brings out every unevenness, so a careful undercoat and smooth, thin coats are worth the effort.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The aircraft model, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
