The Avia CS-199 came about as the two-seat school variant of the postwar Czechoslovak Avia S-199 fighter. That machine paired the airframe of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G with the Junkers Jumo 211 engine, which was left over from wartime bomber production. The resulting combination had strong torque and unusual behavior on the takeoff run, and the two-seat version served precisely so that pilots could get used to it safely. The machines flew with the Czechoslovak Air Force shortly after the Second World War.
