Black Dog 1:72 C-130H Hercules radar and front door is a resin set that replaces the simplified nose radar and the blanked-off entrance door on a model of the Hercules with fully detailed castings.

The Black Dog set is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory to a plastic model of the Lockheed C-130H Hercules in 1:72 scale. It answers two places on the nose that are the most in view on a finished model: the space of the nose radar and the entrance door in the left side of the fuselage. Resin takes sharper edges and thinner walls than injected plastic, so the door can be really thin and have a fully detailed inside, not just suggested engraving on the surface.
The radar in the nose of the Hercules tends to be a single closed piece in the kit. A cast antenna with an internal bulkhead lets the cover be left folded open and shows what is behind it, which turns an ordinary model into an exhibit with a story. An open entrance door, in turn, gives the fuselage scale immediately: the viewer sees how big the machine really is, and room opens up for a figure or for a lit interior. Both are work on the nose, so the two parts of the set complement each other.
Separate the castings from the casting blocks with a saw, and with thin parts preferably in several shallow cuts rather than one forceful stroke. Washing in warm water with a detergent follows, otherwise the release agent from the mold will see to it that the paint is repelled. The door opening is cut into the fuselage, so trace the outline first and fine-tune it with a file dry until the casting sits without pressure. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and degrease the joints beforehand. Paint the internal surfaces before the fuselage halves are joined. On the large smooth areas of the Hercules a good undercoat and an airbrush are worth it, because every uneven transition on the nose is visible.
This is an accessory set, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
