1:35 Waffen-SS tank officer No. 2

Tank officer in a Waffen-SS uniform, number 2, 1:35, PANZER ART

A resin figure in 1:35 from the figure line of the maker PANZER ART. The marking in the name describes the cut and the type of uniform the figure is cast in; the number 2 states the order of the figure within a series that the maker also lists in the form of a multi-figure set. The figure is meant for dioramas and vignettes or for a vehicle kit.

Execution and material

A short tanker jacket with large lapels and straight trousers are demanding in shape, and resin holds their sharp edges and folds better than injection-molded plastic. The casting is supplied on casting blocks and with mold seam lines that are cleaned up before building.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the mold release agent disappears, and let them dry. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, level the faces with a file and sand the resin wet with protection for your breathing. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) and fill the seams with filler. After a thin primer, lay the base shade of the uniform down and work with it in three steps: a dark wash into the folds, a lightened shade on the raised areas, and finally a fine evening-out with a thinned filter. Paint the small details of the uniform with the smallest brush you have, at the very end, when the rest of the figure is finished. Leave the leather straps and the boots glossier than the cloth. A matte clear coat at the end, which evens the surface out and reduces the gloss of the skin.
