This detail set from PANZER ART replaces the gun barrel and mantlet on a model of the French cavalry tank Somua S35 in 1:35 scale. The package combines a turned metal gun barrel of 47 mm caliber with a resin mantlet. It is not a model of the tank but an aftermarket accessory that raises the fidelity of an ordinary plastic Somua S35 kit.
The Somua S35 was a French cavalry tank of the late 1930s, prized for the good armor of its cast hull and turret. In its one-man turret it carried the 47 mm Puteaux SA35 gun with a barrel of L/32 length, which was among the most effective antitank weapons of its day. The short, strongly shaped barrel and the mantlet are characteristic of this tank's silhouette.
Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and clean the surfaces up with abrasive paper, with respiratory protection. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A turned metal barrel has a perfectly straight axis with no casting seams and a muzzle drilled to depth, so once painted it looks more realistic than a barrel in plastic. Before filler and paint, we recommend seating the parts dry and checking that the mantlet beds correctly into the opening in the turret of the base model. The short Puteaux barrel is delicate, so proceed with feeling while cleaning it up and gluing it.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The tank model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
