About product

Jagdpanther - initial mantlet with the PaK43/1 barrel in 1:35 scale (PANZER ART)

A detail set from PANZER ART for a model of the German tank destroyer Jagdpanther in 1:35 scale. It combines a turned metal gun barrel of 88 mm caliber for the long PaK43/1 gun with a resin mantlet of the initial (early) type in the Saukopf (pig's head) shape. It is an aftermarket accessory for plastic models of the Jagdpanther, not a kit in itself.

The real subject

The Jagdpanther was a German tank destroyer on the Panther chassis, which in a fixed superstructure carried the extraordinarily effective 8.8 cm PaK43 gun with a barrel of L/71 length. The early (initial) mantlet in the Saukopf shape differed from the later versions in the details of its mounting and the shape of the casting. A long, exact barrel and the right type of mantlet are essential to rendering the vehicle faithfully.

Usage tips

Before building, wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water to remove any mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and clean the surfaces up with abrasive paper, with respiratory protection. Glue resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A turned metal barrel has a perfectly straight axis with no casting seams and a muzzle drilled to depth, so once painted it looks more realistic than a barrel in plastic. Before filler and paint, we recommend seating the parts dry and checking that the mantlet beds correctly into the opening in the turret of the base model. The set reproduces the early Saukopf type of mantlet; on later machines the shape of the mantlet differs.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Jagdpanther of early production
  • Builders who want an exact long metal barrel
  • Advanced modelers working with resin
  • Collectors of German tank destroyers

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The tank model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

It reproduces the early (initial) Saukopf type mantlet of the early Jagdpanthers.

No, it is a replacement barrel and mantlet for your plastic Jagdpanther model.

The metal barrel only needs cleaning up and gluing in with cyanoacrylate; it holds a straight axis.
