About product

1:35 Pz.Kpfw. VIII Maus — Krupp turret mantlet with KwK 44 barrels (PANZER ART)

The set is not a vehicle kit but a replacement for the front part of the turret of the German superheavy Maus tank. It holds turned barrels of both guns, the main 12.8 cm one and the coaxial 7.5 cm one, both designated KwK 44, and the matching mantlet, or shield, of the turret in the Krupp form.

Why it pays off — the main weapon of the Maus is a very long part in 1:35 scale, and any joint or bend left after gluing plastic halves together shows on the model at once. The turned barrel has an exactly round section, a drilled muzzle and needs neither filling nor sanding. The coaxial 7.5 cm barrel right beside the main weapon is on top of that the detail that lifts the build the most.

The real subject

The Maus was the heaviest German tank of the Second World War and remained at a few prototypes; it reached neither series production nor combat. It combined exceptionally thick armor with a pair of guns in a shared turret: the main weapon of 12.8 cm and a smaller 7.5 cm gun for targets on which using the large caliber would have been wasteful. The turret came from the Krupp works and its shape is characteristic of the subject, and it is that one this set matches.

Building and painting tips

First remove the casting blocks, sand the mating surfaces flat and try the whole thing dry against the plastic turret part. Given the length and the weight of the main barrel, make sure the mounting really is horizontal and that the glued joint has enough area; use super glue (cyanoacrylate). Degrease the parts before painting and spray on primer. A metal barrel takes sharp masking for a multicolor scheme well; darken the muzzle, run a wash into the gaps of the mantlet and go over the edges with a dry brush.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building a Pz.Kpfw. VIII Maus in 1:35 scale
  • Anyone interested in German prototypes and project vehicles
  • Builders who want both barrels perfectly straight and without a joint
  • Advanced modelers used to working with super glue

This is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a detail accessory, that is turned barrels and a turret mantlet, for finishing a plastic Maus model in 1:35 scale. The vehicle has to be obtained separately.

Yes. According to the name it covers the main 12.8 cm gun and the coaxial 7.5 cm gun, both designated KwK 44, together with the turret mantlet.

It denotes the form of turret from the Krupp works, which is characteristic of the subject. The set is shaped to match that turret.

Use super glue, sand the mating surface flat and check before it sets that the barrel sits horizontally and in the axis of the turret.
