An engine deck cover with a winter canvas for the Büssing-NAG 4500 truck in 1:35 scale from PANZER ART. A resin accessory to a plastic kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin accessory set in 1:35 scale for the model of the German heavy truck of the Büssing-NAG 4500 range. It replaces the engine deck area with a part carrying a canvas winter blanket, that is with fabric thrown over the hood and the radiator. The set is an accessory to an existing kit of the vehicle and does not hold the vehicle itself.
Covering the engine and the radiator with a canvas was a common measure against the power unit cooling down too far in winter operation. For a modeler it is a rewarding feature: irregularly sagging fabric, knotted ties and overhanging corners give the otherwise plain hood of a truck an immediate story and the atmosphere of a winter campaign. Resin renders this soft texture far more convincingly than injection molded plastic, because it is not limited by the parting line of a mold.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap first, so that the release agent is gone. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the mating surface by sanding, ideally wet and with your airways protected. Make the joint with super glue. The original plastic hood part usually has to be modified or removed, so offer the parts up dry beforehand. Paint the canvas in a different shade from the sheet metal of the vehicle, as fabric tends to be faded and dirtier. A lighter base, a thin brown-gray wash in the folds and a fine picking out of the edges with a dry brush all work well. A matte varnish at the end knocks back the gloss, and even a viewer at a distance recognizes the canvas.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
