This item is a resin accessory, not a kit. It renders the commander's cupola of the German StuG III and StuG IV assault guns in the late, final form, in 1:35 scale. It replaces the matching plastic part of the base kit. The maker PANZER ART is a Polish brand focused on cast accessories for armored vehicles. A small part, but very visible on a model: the cupola is the highest point of the superstructure and its shape is among the features by which the production conditions of the vehicle are told apart.
The StuG III and StuG IV were German assault guns with a low casemate superstructure and no rotating turret, the StuG III on the Panzer III chassis and the StuG IV on the Panzer IV chassis. The commander had a cupola with vision slots at his disposal, the form of which changed during production, among other reasons to simplify manufacture and to improve protection. The late, final pattern of the cupola differs from the earlier ones in shape and in layout. Because both ranges of vehicles shared a number of superstructure parts, the cupola is usable for both types.
Wash the small casting in warm water with dish soap and cut the casting block off carefully with a fine saw, so as not to damage the thin edges. Sand the surface and protect your breathing. It is glued with super glue, and on small parts a very small amount is enough, so that the glue does not run into the vision slots. Test dry whether the cupola seats into the opening in the superstructure, and adjust the opening if needed. On painting: a primer, the color of the vehicle, a dark wash around the vision slots and round the cupola, and the edges brought out with a dry brush. It is advisable to finish the vision slots at the end, so that they stay clean.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
