A plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Special Hobby. The real subject is the Meteor T Mk.7, the two-seat training version of the first British production jet fighter. The subtitle British Jet Trainer refers to its main role: converting pilots from propeller machines to jet equipment.
The Meteor was the only Allied jet fighter that went into combat use during the Second World War, and after the war it made up the backbone of British fighter aviation. The T Mk.7 training version came about by lengthening the front part of the fuselage and fitting a second seat behind the first under a long, markedly framed canopy. The machine had no armament and served for training; besides the Royal Air Force, a number of other users who brought Meteors into their inventory used it as well. The two-seat cockpit with its rich framing is the most conspicuous recognition feature of the version and at the same time the greatest challenge for a modeler.
Special Hobby is among the manufacturers whose molds call for more careful preparation than ordinary large-series production: try the parts dry, level the mating faces and allow for a little filling. Finish the interior of both cockpits before closing the fuselage up and do not forget to weight the nose, so that the model does not sit down on its tail. Seat the engine nacelles according to the wing, not according to each other. Mask the canopy with its many frames strip by strip or use pre-cut masks; paint the framing in the same order as the airframe. According to the scheme chosen, the surface tends to be either smooth metal or a covering camouflage with prominent training stripes — a metal surface needs a perfectly smooth base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
