A plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the production of the Sova Model brand. The subject is the float version of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter designated W-1; the letter W (Wasser, that is, water) points to operation from the surface of the water. According to the name the package also holds a trolley for pulling the machine out of the water onto the shore, which belongs inseparably to float aircraft and gives the model a scenic dimension.
The Bf 109 was the basic German single-engine fighter of the Second World War; it was built in many versions which differed in engine, armament and the shape of the cockpit and the tail surfaces. The float form did not belong among the production variants, as floats attached to the airframes of land-based fighters remained a subject left half-finished. For a modeler that is exactly what is interesting: the silhouette of a well known machine changes entirely, the center of gravity shifts and the build gains a striking new element in the form of struts and floats. The manufacturer also makes the following W-2 version, so those interested can build both forms side by side.
Assemble the floats and their struts on a flat mat and keep checking the symmetry as you go, as a float seated crookedly is immediately visible on a finished model. Reinforce the struts with thin wire if the plastic parts seem flexible to you. Finish the interior of the cockpit before closing the fuselage, mask the clear parts and varnish them together with the surroundings. Spray the base shade with an airbrush in thin layers. On float machines it pays to suggest the waterline: matte deposits and fine lime traces on the lower part of the floats bring the model to life at once. Paint the trolley separately and weather it more heavily than the aircraft, because it is driven over sand and gravel.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
