A set of turned replacement barrels for a model of the M3 Lee or Grant medium tank in 1:35 scale. It contains the short barrel of the 75 mm M2 gun of L/31 length, which on the M3 was mounted in a sponson on the side of the hull, and the barrel of the 37 mm M6 turret gun. It is not a kit of the tank but an accessory, and the model itself is bought separately.
Watch out when choosing the variant
The same manufacturer keeps the same set in versions cut for different kits, and they differ in exactly that. This one is intended for the I Love Kit kit. At the same time a variant exists for the late production M3 with the longer M3 L/40 barrel, so if you are building a late machine you need a different set from this one.
The M3 Lee was an American medium tank with an untypical arrangement of armament. Because of the limitations of the turret rings available at the time, the 75 mm gun was mounted in a sponson on the side of the hull with a small traverse, while a smaller 37 mm gun sat in the rotating turret. The British version with a modified turret carried the designation Grant. Early machines were given the short M2 barrel with a counterweight at the muzzle, later ones the longer M3 L/40, so the length of the barrel is a distinguishing mark when building a particular machine.
Cut the plastic barrel off with a saw at a right angle to the axis and level the cut surface with a file; the accuracy of the cut will determine how the gun finally seats. Degrease the turned part before gluing and sand the surface with very fine paper, otherwise the base color will not hold on the smooth material. It is bonded with super glue or with a two-part epoxy, which gives more time to align the axis. Do not flood the bore at the muzzle with paint; wipe any overflow out with a cotton swab before it dries. Compared with the plastic part, sanding a parting line falls away and the muzzle stays truly circular.
