This set from the French maker Heller in 1:24 scale brings together two plastic kits, the Renault Estafette van and the Renault 4 TL car, both in the livery of the French Gendarmerie. It is a starter package, which with this brand is supplied as a set ready for an immediate start on the build. Check the exact make-up of the particular package on the box before buying.
The Renault Estafette was a light van with front-wheel drive which was produced in France from the end of the 1950s for two whole decades. A low floor and a simple design made it the typical vehicle of tradesmen, of the post office and of public services. The Renault 4 is one of the most widespread French cars of all, it was produced for over three decades and the designation TL denoted its ordinary better level of equipment. Both vehicles also found their way into the vehicle fleet of the Gendarmerie, where they served for patrol and liaison duty, and it is exactly this form that the set captures.
The kits are of injection-molded plastic and are glued with an ordinary thin cement for plastic. The bodies of utility vehicles do not have to have a mirror gloss; they look good in a semi-matte finish, which suits a service vehicle better. The service livery is completed by decals; lay them on a smooth base and seal them with a clear coat. The glazing of the van is large, so mask the glass carefully and glue it at the very end with a glue that does not give off fumes and will not spoil the transparency. Treat the interior of both cars in matte shades.
The models are supplied unassembled. With starter sets the basic equipment for painting and gluing tends to be part of the package, but check the exact make-up on the box.
