A resin accessory for builders of modern jet aircraft in a small scale. It adds to a General Dynamics F-16 model in 1:144 scale the AN/ALQ-131 jamming pod in the deep three-band form, that is, the variant with a taller body. The package contains neither the aircraft nor any part of it. A cast resin part holds finer surface detail and sharper edges at this scale than injected plastic, which shows at once on a small store a few millimeters in size.

The real subject

The AN/ALQ-131 is an American underwing electronic jamming pod. It is usually carried on the fuselage station of a tactical aircraft and its external shape depends on how many frequency modules are fitted inside. The shallow version with two bands has a low body, the deep version with three bands is markedly taller and on a model you will tell it from the shallow one at first glance. That is exactly why both forms are sold separately. This item is cut for F-16 models and matches the way the pod is hung on that type.

Building and painting tips

Separate the casting from the casting block with a fine saw or a sharp knife, as pliers would crush a small part. Before any further work, wash it in lukewarm soapy water so that the remains of mold release agent from the mold disappear. It is bonded with super glue, because cement for plastic does not soften resin. Keep sanding to the necessary minimum, as in 1:144 scale the fine relief is wiped away very quickly. Before painting, apply a thin primer and only then the base shade. Handle it with tweezers over a surface, so that the part does not vanish into a carpet if it jumps away.
