The subject is a horseman of the seventeenth century armed with a lance. The 1:10 scale is given by the name, and the format matches a bust on which worked-out ornament on the helmet and the breastplate is expected.
The seventeenth century was the time when western Europe gradually moved away from the cavalry lance in favor of firearms, while in central and eastern Europe the lance held its place further. A horseman of that time as a rule wore half armor, that is a helmet with an open face and a breastplate and backplate, under which more civilian clothing remained. The lance was used in a closed charge for a single impact, and only after it was a cold or a firearm reached for. It was a costly kind of troops, so the ornament on the equipment also served as evidence of the standing of its wearer.
The polished steel on the breastplate is the largest area of the bust and easily looks flat. It helps if you work fine reflections of the surroundings into it, that is a hint of a warm color from below and a cool one from above. Keep the straps and the webbing in muted tones, so that against the metal they form a quiet area. Leave the face weatherbeaten, with a more pronounced red cast on the nose and the cheekbones. Build feathers or textile ornaments separately, each layer with a shadow of its own.
