A simple snap-together plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.251/1 armored half-track carrier in the Ausf.B version in the small 1:100 scale from Zvezda. The model, from the Art of Tactic game line, is conceived as snap-fit: the parts fit into each other without any need for gluing and the small number of parts allows a quick build.

The real subject

The Sd.Kfz.251 was the standard German armored half-track carrier of the Second World War, used to carry infantry (Panzergrenadiers) and in many derived variants. The Ausf.B version was one of the earlier forms and differed in the details of the hull and the equipment. The basic /1 transport version carried a squad of soldiers into battle and gave them protection and mobility alongside the tanks.

Building and painting tips

Thanks to the snap-fit design the model can be built even without glue, but for strength it is advisable to touch the joints lightly with thin cement for plastic. In 1:100 scale, clean edges and restrained painting come out best: period German gray or the later dark yellow, a fine wash in the recesses and a discreet dry brush. Use pigments sparingly so that a small model does not turn coarse.
