The SU-122 in 1:100 scale — a plastic kit of the Soviet self-propelled gun from Zvezda in a small scale suited to tabletop games and to a collection.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the SU-122 vehicle in 1:100 scale. This scale matches the common standard of tabletop wargames, so the model fits in well among the other vehicles and figures of the same size, and at the same time it is a quick build for a collection. The number of parts, the contents of the package and the way the parts are joined are stated on the box — so whether the model can be built without glue can be found out directly from the packaging.
The SU-122 was a Soviet self-propelled gun of the Second World War period. It came about on the chassis of the T-34 medium tank and carried a 122 mm howitzer in a fixed, enclosed superstructure. The task of the vehicle was fire support for advancing units rather than fighting tanks at long range, which matched both the ballistics of the howitzer and the way it was deployed. Series production began at the turn of 1942 and 1943. A characteristic feature of the machine is the low sloped superstructure with a prominent cover over the gun mounting.
In 1:100 scale it is the overall tone and the cleanliness of the surface that decide the result rather than sharp detail. Spray the model with a base coat, then apply the main shade with an airbrush and shade it with a slightly lighter tone on the horizontal surfaces. A dark wash will pick out the hatches, rivets and gaps, and a fine dry brush will bring out the edges and the strips on the superstructure. Finish the running gear and the underside of the hull before you glue the model to a base, and suggest the dust with pigment only lightly — in this scale it is easily overdone.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
