1:100 Soviet SPG U-35

The Soviet U-35 self-propelled gun in 1:100 from the manufacturer Zebranomodel

A kit of the Soviet self-propelled gun designated U-35 in 1:100. The model belongs to the extensive line of Second World War equipment that Zebranomodel covers in this scale; further Soviet self-propelled guns and tanks of the same generation appear in the same line. The 1:100 scale suits numerous collections and games with models alike. The number of parts, the material and the contents of the package are given on the packaging.

The real subject

U-35 is the factory designation of an experimental self-propelled gun created at the start of the 1940s on the chassis of a medium tank, which became the direct basis for the later production type. The design consisted of a fixed armored superstructure in place of a rotating turret, into which a howitzer was built for infantry support and for destroying field fortifications. The experimental machine differed from the later production form in details of the superstructure and the external equipment.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the superstructure and dry-fit it before you glue it to the hull; on fixed casemates any inaccuracy shows at once. Paint the running gear and the underside before closing the assembly up. Fit the gun barrel only after painting, so that it is not bent. Thin the paint considerably and spray at low pressure over a thin primer. A single-color finish in a small scale is brought to life by slightly grading the shade on the horizontal surfaces, by one thin wash into the recesses and by a dry brush on the edges.
