A plastic kit of the special observation version of the twin-engine DA-42 aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Amodel brand. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The real subject is a small civil aircraft, so the finished model is undemanding in size and will find room even in a crowded display case.
The DA-42 is an all-composite twin-engine aircraft of Austrian design that made its name mainly thanks to its economical engines burning aviation kerosene. The MPP designation refers to a multi-purpose platform: the airframe is modified so that it can carry observation and measuring equipment and endure long hours of flight over the area under surveillance. The Guardian version is used for monitoring and patrol tasks: border surveillance, watching traffic and linear structures, mapping, checking forest stands and similar work where, against a helicopter, a low cost per flight hour and great endurance are decisive.
Amodel kits belong to short-run production, which in practice means more pronounced mold seams and less accurate locating pins than with the big series brands. Expect to dry-fit the parts before gluing, to sand away the remains of the mold seams and now and then to touch up the joints with putty. It is advisable to fit out and paint the cockpit with its large glazed area before the canopy is seated, and to mask the frames with precisely cut tape. The light base finish of a civil machine calls for a good filling primer, otherwise the joints and differences in the surface of the plastic will show through.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
