A basic set of masking templates in kabuki paper for a model of the F-35A Lightning II aircraft in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II is an American single-engine multi-role combat aircraft, and the letter A denotes the version for conventional take-off and landing from a runway. The shape of the airframe is subordinated to low observability, so what stands out on a model is above all clean transitions between surfaces and precisely bounded finishes. The result is therefore decided by a sharp edge between shades, and a mask makes that more reliably than a free hand.
These are masking templates cut from kabuki paper, that is from a thin self-adhesive tape that follows curved surfaces well and leaves no adhesive residue on the finish once removed. The BASIC designation distinguishes the basic scope from the extended variant of the same range. Which areas the set covers and which kit it is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The templates are stuck onto a clean and dried base before spraying, not after it. Lift the piece with tweezers, lay it in place and press the edge down with a blunt tool, so that no paint seeps under the paper. Spray in thin coats perpendicular to the surface rather than at an angle under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has set, because on a fully cured finish it tears the edge away. Fill any remaining gaps around the canopy with strips of tape or with masking fluid.
A set of masks is supplied. The kit, paints and masking fluid are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
