A sheet of self-adhesive kabuki tape masks for a model of the F-4 Phantom II in the C and D versions, in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for the build. New Ware uses three levels of extent: BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT. The BASIC level is the entry point to the whole range: it covers the essentials on which the final impression rests and leaves aside the supplementary areas that an experienced modeler can mask himself. The exact list of contents is given by the manufacturer on the box.
The decision is simpler than it seems. If you build the model out of the box and what you mainly care about are clean cockpit frames, the BASIC level is enough for you. If you plan an open canopy, detailed work on the landing gear or want to avoid any trimming by hand, reach for a higher level. In practice the first set a person buys tends to be BASIC, and only afterwards does it become clear whether he was missing more.
The F-4 Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engine jet that became one of the most widespread combat types of its era and served in many countries for decades. The C and D versions were meant for the air force and differ from the later E version in a shorter, fuller nose with no built-in gun. A characteristic feature of the whole family is the dihedral outer wing and the markedly anhedral horizontal tail.
Before masking, wash the clear part in lukewarm water with detergent; grease from your fingers is the most common cause of a mask lifting. Press every mask down all around with a soft tool. Spray in thin coats and direct the paint from the edge of the mask inward. Lift the masks shortly after the paint has flashed off, while the finish is still flexible, and pull them back over themselves at an angle.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
