A 1:35 aluminum 155 mm artillery shell is a metal accessory from AFV Club — a single round for detailing artillery subjects and dioramas in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory, not a vehicle kit. The set brings a 155 mm artillery round in 1:35 scale rendered in aluminum, so that on the model and in a diorama it shows an accurate shape and the weight of metal. It comes into its own wherever the ammunition is seen close up: in the open ammunition compartment of a self-propelled howitzer, by the crew of a towed gun, or as a small element on the base of a scene.
The 155 mm caliber is still the standard artillery caliber of the NATO countries. Rounds of this caliber are fired both by towed howitzers and by self-propelled systems; typical carriers are the American M109 series of self-propelled howitzers and the M114, M198 and M777 towed howitzers. The round is brought to the gun separately from the propellant charge, which matters when building a diorama — by the crew and in the ammunition compartment you usually see the shell itself as well as the cartridge cases and the transport containers.
Aluminum is smooth and paint will not hold on it without preparation. First degrease the surface with alcohol, lay down a thin metal primer and only then the base shade. Artillery rounds tend to be in olive and khaki tones with colored bands and markings on the body; depth of color is best reached with an airbrush in thin coats. The driving band at the bottom of the shell benefits from a different metal shade than the rest of the body. A fine wash settles the shadows, pigments add dust and wear. Glue the metal with cyanoacrylate glue — solvent cement for plastic does not work here.
The set is supplied unpainted and is not a model on its own. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
