A decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the pilot series by DK Decals. It is not a kit: the set holds markings that are applied to a finished painted model. This particular release is devoted to the Australian fighter pilot John L. Waddy and to the aircraft connected with his service.
Each release in the series is built around one pilot and his aircraft, so a single sheet carries the markings of machines that belong together through a person rather than through a unit. The series also includes further releases devoted to other Australian pilots. John L. Waddy was one of the Australian fighter pilots of the Second World War; the details of his career and of the individual aircraft are left to the accompanying documentation in the package.
Before application the model has to be painted and sealed with a gloss clear coat — on a matte base a haze will appear around the decal. Cut the motif out as close as you can, soak it in lukewarm water and let it rest until the film can be slid across the paper. Transfer it to the model with a small brush, press out the water and the bubbles, and let it dry without moving it. Over engraved lines and rivets a decal softener helps — start with a weaker one and use the stronger one only where the decal needs to be shaped. Finally even the model out with a final clear coat.
