A decal sheet in 1:32 scale from HAD models. It is not an aircraft model or a resin accessory — these are water-slide decals with which you add markings to the pilot helmets and patches of Ukrainian Su-27 crews. They come into play when finishing figures of pilots and ground crew and on a helmet displayed on its own beside a model.
A small colored marking on a helmet and a patch on a flight suit are details that a brush can hardly render convincingly. Against hand painting, a decal is thinner, has crisp edges and holds a regular shape even with repeated elements. The 1:32 scale is one of the more rewarding ones — the individual elements are large enough to be genuinely legible on a finished figure. The subjects are Ukrainian crews flying the two-seat and single-seat versions of the Su-27, as the name of the sheet states.
The base under the decal has to be smooth and glossy, or a silvering veil will form under the film. So seal the painted helmet and flight suit with gloss clear and let it cure properly. Cut the decal out as close to the motif as possible, soak it in lukewarm water and move it into place with a soft brush. Because a helmet is rounded and a patch lies over the folds of cloth, use a decal softener in two light doses and do not touch the surface until it is dry. Finally unify everything with a matte clear coat so that the film of the decal disappears.
The decals are supplied as a stand-alone accessory. The figures, the aircraft model, paints, clear coat and softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
