A plastic kit in the classic American 1:25 scale, this time in racing form. The number 1965 in the name is the model year of the car, not the scale. The Modified Stocker designation refers to an oval-track car derived from a production body but with extensive modifications to the chassis, the powerplant and the bodywork - that is, to a category that was very widespread in American oval racing.
The Chevrolet Chevelle belonged to the American mid-size cars of the middle of the 1960s and, thanks to its rugged construction and affordable mechanicals, became one of the most popular bases for racing modifications. Cars of the modified class differed from production ones in a strengthened frame, a roll cage in the cabin, a lightened and often reworked body and a bold racing finish with race numbers and sponsors' names.
A racing car is built differently from a production one: the dominant role is played by the roll cage and the mechanicals, which are often on view. It therefore pays to paint and finish them before closing the body up. Assemble the frame and the chassis on a flat surface, so the model sits on its wheels. Racing finishes tend to be rich and contrasting, which makes demands on the quality of the base - sand the body carefully and spray it with a filler primer. Before applying the decals with the race numbers and lettering, varnish the surface with a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used, settle the decals with a decal softener and go over them with a covering varnish, so their edges do not show. Keep the weathering sparing; racing cars tended to be kept in good order.
