The Chevy II Nova was Chevrolet's compact model, which thanks to its low weight and simple construction became a popular basis for drag conversions. The abbreviation AWB means altered wheelbase: in the middle of the 1960s builders moved the axles forward to transfer as much weight as possible onto the driven rear wheels and improve traction at the start. The body therefore looks optically shifted rearward and the whole car has unmistakable proportions, out of which a separate funny car category later grew.
