The box captures a specific machine of the Seed Racing team, which competed in the GP500 class of the Japanese road racing championship in 1989. The livery is built on a black base with silver and red, so the finished model stands out in a display case even without busy advertising graphics. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Honda NSR500 was a factory machine of the 500 cc class, the top category of road motorcycle racing of its day. Power came from a two-stroke V4, which on a light frame gave an extreme power-to-weight ratio; machines of this class were among the most demanding riders have ever had to master. The NSR500 did not appear only in the world championship: thanks to the presence of factory teams and strong private stables, the Japanese national championship was one of the best in the world and a number of later stars of the world series raced in it. That is exactly why domestic Japanese machines hold a special place among collectors.
A motorcycle is built differently from a car: most of the parts stay visible, so finish and paint the frame, the engine, the exhausts and the suspension before fitting the bodywork. Spray the bodywork separately, ideally over a white base so that the red and the silver both glow. Once the paint is dry, lay down a gloss clear coat, the decals on top of it and finally a second coat of clear, so that the edges of the decals vanish and the fairing looks like real racing bodywork. Pick out the metal parts with metallic paint, mixed thoroughly before spraying because the pigment settles; apply metallic paint last, as it is harder to mask and to overspray. Degrease the tires and leave them flat, and shade the brake discs separately.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
