About product

Kawasaki KR250 (KR250A), 1984, 1:12, Hasegawa

An injection-molded plastic kit of a motorcycle in 1:12 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa. The name gives the subject precisely: the Kawasaki KR250 with the type designation KR250A in its 1984 form. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Kawasaki KR250 belonged to the road machinery of the first half of the 1980s, when Japanese manufacturers were carrying experience from circuit racing over into production 250 cc machines. The motorcycle followed the racing machines of the KR family in both name and appearance and offered a two-stroke engine, a light frame and sporting geometry. The 250 cc class was exceptionally lively in Japan at that time: manufacturers vied with one another in technical solutions and in color schemes that often referred to factory racing teams. The 1984 version is therefore interesting for a modeler above all for the typical period design of the fairing and the color combination.

Building and painting tips

With motorcycles it pays to work up from the frame and the engine: finish and paint both before you hang the fairing and the exhaust on them. A frame is rewarding in black in various degrees of gloss; complete the engine blocks with a dry brush or a light wash, so that the cooling fins and the castings stand out. Spray the fairing with an airbrush over a filler primer, and mask two-color schemes only once the first color has fully cured. Chrome and polished parts suggest the exhausts and the silencers; a thin layer of metallic varnish over a smooth black surface helps. Apply the decals for the sponsors and the type designations onto gloss varnish and then varnish the whole machine to the degree of gloss you want.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese motorcycles in 1:12 scale
  • Fans of two-stroke machinery of the 1980s
  • Modelers who want to work the frame and the engine up in detail
  • Builders of display-case models focused on road machines

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the type designation of a particular version of the KR250 model. The name of the product adds the year 1984, so it is clear which form the kit captures.

Motorcycles in 1:12 have many small parts and the chaining of the sequence is more demanding than with cars. At least basic building experience is advisable.

The exact package contents are given on the packaging and in the manufacturer's instructions.

A combination of aluminum and steel shades with a light wash into the recesses works well; bring the cooling fins out with a dry brush.
