The kit captures the North American RT-28B, that is, the reconnaissance conversion of the Trojan trainer. It is a less usual variant of a widespread type, and in 1:144 scale it is a small model that complements other versions of the same aircraft well in a collection.
The T-28 Trojan family came about at the end of the 1940s as a replacement for older trainers. It is a two-seat all-metal low-wing aircraft with retractable nose gear and a roomy cabin under a long canopy. Compared with the basic version, the T-28B was given a markedly more powerful nine-cylinder Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine and a three-blade propeller, which turned a trainer into a fairly high-performance machine. The RT-28B designation was carried by machines modified for reconnaissance and reconnaissance-training duties, among others with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. The airframe and the powerplant stayed unchanged from the T-28B version; the difference lay in the installation of equipment.
In 1:144 scale the parts are fine, and the radial engine with its propeller is among the most delicate places, so work on them only at the end of the build. Sand the parting lines on the fuselage and the wing only enough for the joint to disappear. Spray the paint well thinned in several thin passes. Trainers tend to be conspicuously marked, and it is the decals that decide the result here: apply them on a gloss varnish, move them with a damp brush and draw them down with a decal softener, so they settle onto the shape. Mask the long canopy with narrow tape and paint it at the very end, as it makes up a large part of the silhouette.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
