The Carina E was the European version of the Toyota Carina, assembled for the European market, and in the first half of the 1990s it became the basis for a race car in the British touring car championship. At that time the championship was run to Super Touring rules, which prescribed a two-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine and a body derived from the production car. The cars had front-wheel drive, a reworked chassis, a roll cage in the cabin and only modest aerodynamics, so the result was decided by driving technique and the work of the chassis. The British championship was then among the most widely watched touring series in Europe.
First finish the interior with the roll cage and the racing seat, and only then close the body up. Sand the seams of the body and smooth the surface, because every irregularity shows under a gloss finish. Spray the paint in thin coats over a primer, let it cure thoroughly and go over it with a gloss varnish. Apply the sponsor decals over the gloss with a softener and seal them with a further coat of varnish once dry, so that the edges disappear. Mask the glazing and the headlights before painting.
