Valerian 1:32 / 1:35 is a Model Scene scenic vegetation accessory: tall flowering plants for ditches, field boundaries and roadsides in a diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
Valerian is a tall perennial herb with small pale flowers crowded into an umbel. It grows on damp meadows, by ditches, on stream banks and at the edges of roads, that is exactly where a hard surface ends and unkept terrain begins. It is precisely this type of plant that rids a scene of its artificial tidiness. The accessory from the Model Scene brand is prepared for 1:32 and 1:35 scale.
It comes into use by ditches along roads, on field boundaries, by fences and walls, at the edge of a yard and between tracks rutted in mud. Taller flowering plants belong at the edges of areas that neither a mower nor the wheels of a vehicle reach; their placement therefore explains to the viewer, almost in passing, where people walk and drive in the scene. It suits European scenes of practically every period.
First set the plants out dry and look at the scene from the height of a viewer's eye rather than from above. Plant them in clusters of uneven density and leave gaps between them, as a regular grid gives a scene away. A drop of PVA or super glue is enough to fix them, and the transition at the foot should then be completed with small growth so that the plant does not look stuck in. The stems can be bent slightly before fitting, so that the growth looks as if the wind has worked in it. The shade can be unified with a light overspray from a distance; toward the end of summer the lower parts of the stems are drier and lighter than the tops.
The accessory is supplied as scenic vegetation to be set into your own base. Glue, terrain materials and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
