An injection-molded plastic kit of an unusual British experimental machine, the Saunders-Roe SR.A/1 jet fighter flying boat, in 1:72 scale from the Xtrakit brand. It is a short-run tooling whose parts have no classic locating pins and call for a more experienced hand. The box contains the plastic frames and decals for period British test machines.
The Saunders-Roe SR.A/1 was a British experimental jet fighter flying boat of the end of the Second World War. It came into being to an order which called for a jet-powered fighter seaplane; the first prototype flew only in 1947. By then its performance was already behind that of land-based jet fighters, and so it stayed at a few prototypes and the project was ended. Even so it is one of the most interesting dead ends in the development of postwar aviation.
A short-run tooling calls for more work: clean the parts up, dry-fit them and glue them with liquid cement for plastic, fill the gaps with filler and sand them. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage and mask the glazing. We recommend a base primer, which will reveal any unevenness, and an airbrush for an even coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
